  3.     In the item about the discovery of the wreck of the
  4. Bismarck, Germany's World War II battleship (WORLD, June 26),
  5. you ignored the short-lived but grisly success of this vessel.
  6. Three days before it was sunk, the Bismarck took on the pride
  7. of the British fleet, the battleships Hood and Prince of Wales.
  8. The Hood was struck by a salvo from the Bismarck and sank like
  9. a rock, taking with it all but three hands. The Bismarck then
  10. turned its guns on the Prince of Wales and damaged it severely.
  11. The skirmish resulted in the deaths of more than 1,400 men.
